Snake room

tko75 Nov 27, 2005 04:39 PM

Im thinking about building a snake room in my basement.I was just wondering what would be best, a concrete floor or a wooden insulated room.It would need to keep the temps right for hibernation as well as 80 in the summer. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I simply built a wall at one end of my basement, thus creating a small room. I heat it with an oil-filled heater. I can get it very warm in the summer if I want, and it stays warm enough the rest of the year to do the trick. There is a small window to the outside that lets in enough natural light for when I don't have the lights on. I usually only turn the lights on during the daytime, thus creating a natural light cycle. I will be able to crack the window open if I need to make it even cooler than it will get this winter once I turn off the heat. Duffy

to save on heating costs have lots of windows that face where the sun is and lots of insulation everywhere else youd be suprised how much free, efficient, renewable heat you ca get from the sun. putting a black barrel full of water in the room in front of the window will also be heated by the sun and keep the room warm longer
