simple housing question for newbie...

Ralph Nov 27, 2005 11:40 PM

Hello,

I am trying to figure out the best way to house an adult pair of Arizona mountain kings (and sooner than later a pair of sinaloan milks). What do you all prefer to house your colubrids in? Could a sweater box type 15"x24"x5" (lxwxh) work as a lifetime enclosure for each or is that too short, small, etc.? Please let me know. I would like for them to live comfortably.

Rafael

As a general rule, I try to make sure the length the depth of the cage is at least equal to (but preferably greater than) the length of the snake. This will give the snake plenty of room to move and stretch out if necessary.

I use display cages for my animals rather than rubbermaid racks which tends to give them more height to the cage and the appearance of more room. Many people use rubbermaid racks succussfully that generally have 4" or 5" heights to each enclosure, and since the species you mentioned are not arboreal, it may be OK.
