Hey, I've a question for all of you old foggies!

johnavilla Nov 28, 2005 10:48 AM

I've been thinking lately; I am a couple of months short of my 26th birthday. Next year I am hoping to breed my 50% for clown male to my normal female and in a few years prove him out (hopefully) by breeding a 100% male to their offspring. being that balls occasionally live to 40 years it is possible, however unlikely that the snakes I have now, never mind their decendants, will outlive me. So I've been thinking about what kind of arrangements can be made for snakes when their keepers die. Some of you guys are in your 50's and older and have extensive collections. What kind of plans have you guys made for your snakes that very likely will out live you? I'm not trying to be morbid, just curious. These problems don't often come up with mammalian pets which are short lived and easily adoptable. Thanks in advance for replies.

Not to jinx ya or anything but you could be hit by an airplane tomorrow too - lol - then what?!?!?!?!

That's what kids are for - they inherit the money, the house, the stocks and the snakes.

In that case john, you will have to figure out something else. Maybe as you get older you could run across someone else into the hobby who might take them for you. LOL my kids already got mine divied up betwixt em.

Yep,
My sons have already told me the snakes are theirs when I'm gone. They even sit around saying to each other, "this one's yours... that one's mine." Now, if they would just stop leaving those electrical appliances sitting around the bath tub...

So I guess that the only option is to produce some plotting, murderous offspring! Actually, I really had hoped that some of you O.G.'s out there might have had some serious output aside from children (which is imo valid) but that's probably my fault for labelling this post the way that I did. Anyway, thanks for all of your posts; my plan is that by the time I have a collection big enough to worry I will hopefully know a lot of responsible herpers and I'll will my snakes to them. If I go before that I will leave instructions that my snakes be donated to a zoo or reptile house since I don't know anyone that I would trust to care for them. I made the mistake of leaving a green iguana that I had raised from about a foot to over five with a friend who I thought was good with reptiles when I went away to college and he called me about two months or so later to tell me it was dead. Never again.
