do any of you know of any big live plants that i can use to fill up a 29 gallon?
I would say two RETF's in a 29 gallon tank would be fine, although I've read that you can keep 3 RETF's in a 30 gallon tank. Also I've read that it should be 2 males to 1 female for breeding, I would think that keeping 2 males together should'nt be a problem in a 29 gallon. As for a plants I would suggest Peace Lily(a large one), Lucky Bamboo, Pothos, Anthurium, Philodendron,or Dieffenbachia. Hope this helps Steve
I agree w/ Detrick.. 2 maybe 3 frogs in a 29 gallon will be fine. I have never had any RETF's fight.. sometimes the younger ones will wrestle.. but it is play..
As for plants, Detrick gave you a few.. here are some more to pick from.
Most of these can be picked up at your local Lowes or Home Depot. But you can also check out ebay and there are several tropical plant greenhouses that work alot with the frog community (i.e. blackjungle.com)..
Begonia (be careful with which one you get, some of these get huge)
Dracaena
Pothos
Most ferns
Any of the Ficus family.. alot of this will grow fast and overtake your tank, so they will take some maintenance once they are established.
Sansevieria (My frogs love these plants)
Philodendron
Peperomia
Fittonias
Also, many of the smaller bromeliads do well in the humid, warm tropical terrariums that RETF's require.. anything from the Cryptanthus (earth star) family will do well and the tillandsia do well.. both of these are typically smaller plants as well.
Most important thing.. research and learn how to care for the plants.. most are very low maintenance if you take your time and set them up right the first time around.
Another site you may want to check out is dendroboard.com. While the forums are specifically dart frogs.. there is a plant forum there and with few exceptions, most of the plants in a dart tank and a RETF tank can be interchanged..

Probably goes without saying.... but replant any of the plants in new soil and water/wash them for a few days to get rid of the toxic waste that stores like Lowes and HD spray on them. They use LOTS of pesticides etc.
