Were you feeding pre killed frozen or live?Does it eat anything else? If your feeding it live , it may have caught a bug from the mice. Take a stool Sample to a vet and have it checked for Parisites.Take care Russ

How do you prepare the turkey.?

krn Nov 29, 2005 07:54 PM

I prepare it in balls and he eats it. He just wont touch mice and vegies and fruits and worms. I sneak them in the turkey balls to give him the right nutrients. His temps are good 120 plus basking and 80 to 85 temps through out the cage. His humididty is like 70%. What could i do? wait it out? sneak parts of mice intot he turkey-ewww. Thanks kevin

Why ddid feed him turkey balls First? Are you using SDZ formula ? .Russ

What is sdz formula? iv always fed turkey balls.

THe SDZ formula consists of 1/2 centrum 2.5 lbs of turkey and 22.5 grams bone meal(iherb.com is where i ordered the bone meal I couldnt find it anywhere). THe turkey by itself and even if you add veggies doesnt have enough calcium, etc in it. In my mixture I add eggs and strawberries and bananas then mix it all up and put it in ice cube trays. When I want to feed I take out like 4 cubes and put them in a bag in the refrig. then they next day I let the bag soak in warm water in the for like 5 minutes I touch it make sure its not cold then I feed him.I use the SDZ diet but a lot of people on here say its bad. I dont use it as a staple diet and dont believe anyone should. I simply alternate rodents then SDZ every 2 days he gets fed. The SDZ is easier on him to digest since it doesnt have all that hair so it kinda "flushes him out" cause in the past he has had a mild prolapse. I have taken him to a reptile specialist vet out here and he told me what I feed is perfectly ok and he told me my tegu looks great. Your tegu wont eat a live mouse that is jumping around? If its a prekilled you can try to make it move by swinging it by its tail with tongs that might help

Ok thank you very much. Ill try some of your advice. I apreciate it and by the way what is a prolapse.

ZEKyle Dec 01, 2005 01:09 AM

A prolapse is when part of its insides the intestines start protruding out of its cloaca.
