I recently put a male in with one of my females. This was to be my first stab at breeding. I was so excited when i heard them "talking" to each other. I noticed food intake went down. I didn't think this was too strange as many ppl have said that they can get a little preoccupied with each other. Eventually my female started running away from the male when he was near, he'd chase her and try and get a hold of her. Still didn't see anything too odd about any of this. Both were of reasonable weight. Male was 53g, female was 49g. She went down to about 44-43g. The male went down to 46g I was a little worried about the weight loss, but i figured that once they got used to each other, they would put the weight back on. Then i found my female dead in the corner. The male is active, he is eating and had put a few grams back on. So what might have been the cause of death? They were in a 20 gal tank. screen lid. Paper towl substrate. crickets and fruit purree supplimented. Daily temps were in the range of 72-76 F. The female was never overly skinny, no wounds or breaks noticeable. I did get her as an adult and have no idea how old she is, but i still doubt it was old age. Could she have been stressed to death by the male?, she started squawking at him and running away from him,,,
Any insight would be greatly apprecated
