Interesting news on the axanthic line of Florida kings

bluerosy Nov 28, 2005 11:32 PM

A friend crossed the BHB (Barcyk) line with the Lemke line and got all normals. So the two lines are not allelic.

Pic is of my BHB line and New England line. I always assumed these were compatiple:

Sveral years ago I bred the New England line with the Lemke and got all axanthics so those two lines are allelic. But the Barcyk line is not campatiple with the NE or Lemke.

*on a side note:
Here are a couple of '05 New Englands I sent off today. One went to someone (thanks Chris!) who I owed a favor to and the other a close friend (old dude) missed out on LOL!

That is interesting news... i think there needs to be a reference site for Florida kings not only the locale stuff all the mutations and diversity among both morphs (different looks to hypos, axanthics, lavenders, PB, etc...) and normals (yellows, greens, reds, oranges, whites)... i gotta a buddy doing a graphic design course, hopefully i can get him on board for this.

can you get your friend to sent you pix of the adults used and the normal offspring?

thanx for the info

Bklyn's Finest Brooksi & Goini Fanatic

that is neat but i have to hoe this out a little straighter to get my mind around it...

bhb sold "axanthic brooksi" that were llemke line. these are the axanthics that made up the current line of ghost brooksi. many are quite nice and not that dark. they are also compatible with the new england strain. as a matter of fact (or opinion i should say) i do not know of the new england strain actually being a different recessive trait occurring random/separate from the original llemke line except for that it was outbred many multiple times to exceptional animals to clean it up. strange calling a brooksi a new england line anyhow !!!

bhb also sold axanthic floridana, that were quite dark like the ones Rainer shows in the pics. yes systematically brooksi are floridana are brooksi, but these certainly appeared to be separate phenotypes. i never thought to get any of these or to see if they were compatible. neat discovery, now what that you have normals double het for axanthic "a" and "b"?

The New England line popped up a few years before the Lemke line did.

Anyone into knifes? Picked up this Spyderco at Wallyworld today. For those in the know this is a great deal on a knife. Has the CPMS30V blade which is normally on $200 custom knife. Spyderco is test marketing this for less than $40. at Wal-Mart. Only about 1/3 of the walmarts carry them however.
