canary questions

zach_whitman Nov 29, 2005 01:38 AM

Now, I have been away from the GTP scene now for a while and I think that I am out of the loop. I just saw some "canary" pythons on the classifieds. Those things are insane looking! Does anyone know what the deal is with those or where they are actually coming from. Has anyone bred them yet? And why are they so much cheaper than CB yellow bloodlines like lemontrees? I would have thought they would be outrageously expensive. Is it just because they are WC?

-Kaifu Island

Has anyone bred them yet?
- No captive breedings have been reported

And why are they so much cheaper than CB yellow bloodlines like lemontrees?
-Yellow bloodlines are proven though generation to generation. No one knows if they stay yellow. Until we see a gravid yellow female, we have no idea. Though they do seem to retain their yellow color much longer than any other "locality" chondro, yet.

I would have thought they would be outrageously expensive. Is it just because they are WC?
-It's because no one knows if they will retain their yellow color. There are many theorys, but no one knows for sure. I suspect a large part of why they are so inexpensive is because they are WC animals and not many people who have high end chondro collections would want to risk a wc animal in their collection. I have also seen very few "Kaifu" chondros that look in decent health, they are few and far between. If you do find a nice one, that is healthy and has substantial weight on it they will fetch a pretty penny. Even as much as a high yellow sub adult (2-4k)

Hope this helps.

i have some. They have a nice yellow and i have one that is now a nice GREEN. We just dont know if they keep the yellow. give it a year or 2 and we should know alot more. if you do want to have a nice yellow and want it to stay yellow lemons are safe..
