Are milksnakes, kingsnakes?

LuisMarques Nov 29, 2005 02:26 PM

I have read different information on different snake books and websites. Can we consider milksnakes, kingsnakes? Since they are also Lampropeltis. Or does the Lampropeltis Triangulum can't be considered kingsnakes?

Thank you.

Here is a link to an answer to a similar question from a couple of years ago....

In short, yes milksnakes are kingsnakes,...except they are milksnakes...except for one of the subspecies of milksnake (elapsoides) which is a kingsnake. Read the link for the details...
An old reply to a similar question....the problem with common names..

As far as i know king snakes and milk snakes are different because milk snakes posses and extra centralized tooth in their mouth and that is the only difference, i dont know if this holds any truth but that was the information i was given
