Gecko with other gecko...cresteds

Tammy Nov 29, 2005 04:45 PM

Hi,

I have two cresteds about a year old. They seem to have the same size perianal bulge but I don't know if they are both males or females (is there a good way to tell without having one of both sexes to compare?). They have never lived together but I would like to put them into one large cage. Since they have never met are they likely to fight even if they are both females? One is tailess and the other tailed and I would hate for the one with a tail to lose it in a fight. Also, if they do happen to be both male and there are no females present will they still fight? I guess what I am asking is should I put them together or best to keep them apart at this point?

Thanks,
Tammy

Without any other info, keep them apart.

If they have ANY bulge, it likely means they are both male. Females are pretty flat there. two males will still fight even without a female present, and if they really hate each other, a dropped tail could be the least of your worries. If you go to some of the big breeders' sites, they have pictures that would probably tell you which gender your geckos are.

This is a lousy pic (I hope it worked) but it is a female gecko. No bulge. I'll put a pic of my male in another post if i get this one to work.

Here's one of my year-old male, Whiff: Definite bulge visible, even from a poor angle. These are the best pics I've got, sorry they aren't clearer about answering your question.

*big smile*
I looooove him, he's Whifferific. I bought him from ClarksGeckos at Daytona, and he's a big sweetheart. When I finally start a true breeding project, Whiff is going to be one of my foundation males. I have to start looking for a good mate for him soon. I haven't seen many like him.
