Developmental stages of a female hypo tricolor honduran milksnake

Conserving_herps Nov 29, 2005 06:10 PM

Someone requested me some pics of how my tricolor hypo developed from a hatchling to adult size. So, I thought I'd share them with everyone. She turned 2 years old just last September but did not breed her yet (waiting for my ghost male to attain breeding size next season)...or a suitable male hypo tricolor from another breeder perhaps.

Anyway, 3 pics are from:

a) hatchling stage ;
b) at one year old stage ; and
c) at 2 year old stage.

Enjoy and cheers,

Ray

A) A couple of days old hatchling (August 2003)

B) At one year of age (August 2004)

c) Adult size at 2 years of age last (Sept 2005)

Hi Ray,
I think I have posted replys on this snake before. That is a really nice tri-color hypo. I love when they hold their color into adulthood and dont get any tipping.Nice pics too.

Hi Jeff,

I appreciate your comments, especially from someone like you who has a great collection of hondos. Even though I have some really high end ones, she has become my favorite because of easy handling and ravenous appetite. I pray that she produces killer offsprings when the time comes.

Thanks again,

Hey Marc,

It would really be awesome to see some pics to date of your male hypo tricolor. Are you breeding him next season?

Love this snake Marc! I may have some girls to introduce him to sometime in the future ... who did you get him from again?

Here is another example of a very clean tri-color, a baby pic and a little over a year old. Too bad they have to darken up!

Did the grey area darken or is it the flash camera?
Anyway still a beautiful animal.

Hi Mike,

Actually, when I took that last pic, she was turning "blue" and her eyes "clouded" a 2 days after. I knew that was happening but I had to take a picture before brumation started, otherwise, I would be waiting for next spring out of brumation to take a pic of her adult size. She is brighter than the last pic but her rings are slightly darker than the 2nd pic (when she was 1 year old). I did not use a flash when I took the 3rd pic...that probably contributed to darker rings due to lack of light. I'll have to wait this spring to take pics again as she is brumating now.

Thanks for looking !
