Grow-Out Racks..

byron.d Nov 29, 2005 06:45 PM

I'm pretty damn proud of these little racks that I sort of made.
They're plastic storage units from office maxx that I slightly modified and heated with ultratherm mats up the back. I get a perfect heat gradient and my hatchlings and yearlings have plenty of light, room, and air. Not bad for less than $60 total....

That is really slick. Would you be so kind as to elaborate on the mods you made besides adding the heat tape?

I spent several weeks looking for just the right "storage unit" that could be easily modified to be escape proof (or as close to it as possible). I wound up with the Iris unit. I cut and glued a piece of laminated foam core board to the frame of the rack making it the ceiling of the drawer below. There are no spaces or gaps anywhere.
I am very far from being good at building things, but this was super easy and it really works well. Each drawer is about 11" X 15"

It's hard to explain, but if you'd like to see more photos, email me and I'll snap some off for you.

thanks.
