Too Humid?

BDHomer Jul 23, 2003 10:53 AM

Hello,

Recently I got a humidity gauge for my beardie tank and noticed the humidity getting way too high. He is in a 55gallon tank with mesh wire on one side and no screen on the other side. The humidity gets around 40-75 percent. 40 being more towards desert, 75 in tropical. I notice the humidity go down to about 45 when I turn the A/C on in the house, but then the temps on the cool end of the tank drop around to 80 or so. I was wondering if there was any other way to get the humidity to desert without turning the A/C on?

Thanks,

Where is the humidity coming from? Is there water in his cage, or is it from the weather? You could hook up a small computer fan to keep his air circulating, which should dry things out.

I took out all of the water in his cage except a small dish made out of the bottom of a paper cup with water in it( he has coccidia right now). I live in Los Angeles, California, and it gets very humid down here. If I hook up the fan, it won't get too cold for him? And he won't mind the breeze?

If the temps are too cool, you can up the wattage of your basking bulb. Mine never seemed to notice the fan, although I used it for water dragons not bearded dragons.

Thanks alot for the responses. I'll get him a little fan. Should I put it inside the tank and face it outwards? Or outside of the tank and face it inwards?

they dont mind, if you make the fan face outwards, so the breeze is going out of the cage, then it will help circulate it better

do you have a water dish in the tank? if you do you can take it out, beardies dont need a constant supply of water. i give my beardie a bath twice a week, and if shes thirsty shell drink, but she hardly ever does. beardies get all the moisture they need from the fresh greens they are fed.
hope this helps
