New York Books???

Obediah2 Nov 29, 2005 08:43 PM

I have a student who has shown an interest in reptiles lately, and she just found out out that she will be attending Cornell next year! (She is VERY excited!) I wanted to get her some books on local herps and/or hiking - any help would be great.

Thanks,

Jake

There will be a book on NY Herps published next year due to be released around September 2006.

"Amphibians and Reptiles of Pennsylvania and the Northeast" is a pretty good one that covers all of New England. Here's an Amazon link... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0801437687/qid=1133391878/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i4_xgl14/104-9549496-3689567?n=507846&s=books&v=glance

But I encourage you to support your local independent bookseller!

Hi Jake,

Congrats to your student. Cornell is a great place for herpetology. When she arrives, she should check out the Cornell Herp Society. They sponsor seminars and take trips to zoos and to do field herping.

She should also be sure to talk to CU's herpetologists: Kelly Zamudio, Kraig Adler and Harry Green. All three are great people and very encouraging for undergrads.

The Ithaca area has numerous local parks, private land trusts and DEC property for hiking and herping.

Best,

Mike
