water hater?

rabidkittycat Nov 29, 2005 09:31 PM

when i mist the tank i make sure not to do it on wilson but if he gets a single mist granual on him he jerks away and sometimes hisses. anyone elses balls do that? my box turtle also hates it, which is interesting since he loves soaking.

i usually put warm water in the bottle too, so i dont think its because its an unpleasant cold feeling. usually spray it on my skin to check the warmth, i know i dont like being spraye with cold water.

Never met an animal that enjoyed being misted. They all run away and act unhappy in general.

Both of my snakes always try to avoid being misted. The kingsnake will run and hide under his water dish. The python doesn't move all that quickly to get away, but she slowly heads for cover.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

Being an underground snake in semi-arid Africa, I have to wonder how much Ball Pythons have evolved to be "rained on". Might be the reason they don't like it, no?

joshhutto Nov 30, 2005 12:51 AM

just as someone stated below, ball's don't really get rained on for most parts of the year. However, during the rainy season there are tons of large storms that travel across afica on a daily basis. with that said every snake i own, even the rainforest dwelling rainbow boa tend to shy away from the spray bottle. My assumption is that rain doesn't hit them in the face like a ton of bricks as the mist does out of a bottle. What I try to do is spray the tops of my rubermaid's if they have them or do a ground misting away from the snake itself to boost the humidity during shedding. At all other times my snake room is maintained at 60-65 % humidity with a room humidifier. hope this helps, Josh Hutto.......JKReptiles

nice ball pics those are pretty ones guys

that does make sence. i try to mist away from him but he gets nosey and comes over then gets pissed if i accidentally get him. ive been taking him out of the tank to mist it lately as not to upset him. lol, i care more about my pets "feelings" then most people >_<

even my boxie likes to sit under a sprinkler but if water from a mist bottle comes out its "so horrable".

biajane Nov 30, 2005 09:19 AM

i dont imagine youd mich like being sprayed surprise either. ill actually spry my ball when i catch him trying to escape. If nothing else it confuses the hell out of him.

the only animals in my house that enjoy msting are the conures (smalle parrots) and only sometimes. The green chek will sometimes act happy, and other times she will growl and fuss and fluff up and try to bite the bottle... snakes and cats hate it...
