Young gecko takes days to shed---in high high humidity

hunterjackson Nov 30, 2005 12:30 AM

I have a young leopard gecko, SHCT, that consistantly takes days to fully shed, when i see him begin to shed, his humidity is raised, very high. He still takes days, and i have to help him shed on his toes.

Any thoughts on what i can do?

Hunter

And he does have a rough thing to rub on.

how high is humidity and how high are your temps. You may be better with a constant humid hide, rather than just raising it when needed.

The humidity is registering at 93% on the humid side, and 85 on the dry side when i up the humidity.

I have a half 90 degree area and half area which goes down from 90 to room temperature gradually.

Thanks for the help!

that humidity is too high. How are you raising it? Is it that high for some time? If so, you are risking a respiratory infection. I would suggest you try to keep a humid hide on the warm side all the time. Also, try the sauna trick posted earlier to help with the stuck skin. I have more shedding problems this time of year when my heat is on and my house is much dryer.

That is just the humidity when i was trying to get it to shed. but i have eliminated it down to low levels and i did what you suggested. i do appreciate it! and yes, i agree, this time of year is no fun with the heat on! especially with snakes!

just try not to go too low. If you can keep it around 30 you should be good w/the moist hide. I can't seem to keep mine over about 15.
