Hmmmm, interesting...

I was poking around on the burmese forum and it seems that it has finally happened... Someone has convinced a male ball to lock up with a female burm. Not sure what I think of this mix but it should be interesting. The patern and collors are too simmilar in my opinion to lead to anything other than a small burm-like or a large ball-like snake but who knows? Thought everyone would be interestd in hearing this, like or dislike. There was supposed to be a pic but all I could get was those white boxes with the red X.

Yeah someone posted the pictures here last week too. I think the general consensus was that the picture was photoshopped. I don't think that two animals with that big of a difference in there physical structure can produce viable offspring - but I guess we'll see.

I think the photo is real, but I have my doubts if the eggs will be fertile. But like you say Tosha, I guess we wait and see.

If a woma python and a carpet python can have healthy babies than a burm and ball pytjhon should have no problem accomplishing it.
I dont think the size difference will matter.

Ball pythons and blood pythons have been crossed successfully, I don't see why a burmese wouldn't cross successfully as well. There might be decreased viability, but I'd expect several babies from that clutch. I wouldn't buy one, but I'd be interested in seeing what the babies look like for sure!

It seems to me that as long as the smaller species provides the male there shouldn't be a problem. If the male came from the larger species than I would expect the eggs to burst or the female to become egg bound and die. Other than this the only other issue should be genetics. If burms and balls are of the same genus as the post suggests (I don't know)than I don't see any dificulties beyond scenting the female and inducing the male to aproach her. What do you think?
