I don't remember the timing exactly, because this was awhile ago now. But Lizard's jaws, at the time, were swollen on the sides, but met up perfectly in front. After we got him on Neocalglucon (vet prescription), and had him under a UVB light the swelling started to gradually go down. One month later the side swelling was still present, but barely noticeable. After two months, the side swelling was gone. However, the lower jaw receded from the upper jaw as time went on. This had to do with contraction and bone density, and is fairly common.
As for curing, I think you know what I did.
Besides the Neocalglucon, I basically just gave him everything he should have had since he was a hatchling - proper temperatures, basking lights, UV light, fresh water available all the time, and good greens and veggies. And lots of TLC. He didn't eat on his own at first, so I helped him eat. When I still couldn't get him to eat, we had to force feed some veggie baby food. Fortunately, after a few weeks he started to eat a bit more. Not a lot, but enough so that we didn't need to force feed. Now, of course, he eats two full salad plates of food every day. The day that I realized that he definitely was going to get better was the first day he ate more than 2-3 little bites of food on his own. He ate a total of 9 bites BY HIMSELF that day, and i felt like celebrating! Just think how angry he'd be now if all I gave him for a meal was 9 bites, LOL.
That all makes it sound a bit easier than it was, but it really wasn't too bad. Then again, we got him to the vet before his MBD was too far advanced. If it's caught much later, I think it would take much longer to recover. Anyway, I wish you luck with your little dragon, and I hope he recovers quickly.
