My Black Milk (dial-up warning)

Joeycoco98 Nov 30, 2005 09:32 PM

Here are a few pics of my Black Milk I got from John Cherry. It is an 04 I believe, had a few beers so the mind is not that clear right now.
He is starting to turn already, has a lot of black tipping on the red and the white is becoming more and more mixed with the black bands. The pics aren't as clear as I would like but here they are.

Too funny I was poundin the local micro brews tonight as well. Here in Wisconsin we have no shortage of them, Micro Breweries that is. I had 2 different flavors one was Spotted Cow (yeah in Wisconsin can ya believe it lol the other was Grays Honey Ale)... Sorry Im wandering. That snake is awesome Miller and he looks HUGE ! I too will be getting a yearling male along with a hatchling female (unrelated although both are San Antonia Zoo)in a week or 2. Ill make sure to post some pics.

Actually, he really isn't that big , at least I don't think so. Sugar Pie is bigger than he is overall. One thing I have had to adjust too is the slow growth rate compared to my kings. He was much bigger than sugar pie when I got her and she has passed him up in overall size. She is doing great by the way, she just follows me around looking for a rat crawler!

Your SA Zoo Milk that you purchased from John Cherry is going to be huge. I purchased an adult nigrita from John, and ended up getting a 63 inch monster. The funny thing is I almost purchased one of his black milks, but decided on the adult Mexican black after he told me his milks get quite a bit larger. Your going to have a monster on your hands.

I hope so! I really wanted something a little bigger than my kings but not in the pit arena. I am actually waiting for a reply from John now to see if he has any left from his Florida zoo line (today was payday!!!!. I hope he has one!

If he doesnt I can hook you up with my guy. He has a breeding pair thats over 6' and jet black (S.A. Zoo). Maybe you would prefer to have something unrelated. His babies hatched out 3 weeks ago and he also has aberrant ones as well. He hasnt advertised them at all to my knowledge.

Black Milks are nice. Wish it didn't take so long to blacken, but a all black beautiful indigo glossy animal is worth it! Try to make sure the parents are solid black. Theres a guy selling a male in the classifieds that retained most of it's banding ARGH! Fortunately he seems like a decent guy and he's been up front about it. Poor guy, what a heartbreak to spend all that time feeding and cleaning to not get a pitch black animal!

Nice pics!

Yea, I am hoping mine turns solid black. He has a lot of black tipping now, he has none when i got him. Considering he is not a yearling yet I think he is turning fairly quickly. Once he gets some more black on him I will post more pics.

Miller,

I'm sure he'll be fine. I didn't mean to give you gas. Nice looking animal!

i have a yearling san antone pair from john as well and i love them. they eat great! mine are pretty nervous still, however. my female is growing a little faster than my male. can't wait 'til they turn big and black!

Weekendherper Dec 03, 2005 09:26 AM

Nice looking black milk. My 02 male is approaching 5ft now and he's still growing like a weed! I'd say 6ft would be a great size for these as they are easy to handle.

Good luck with yours and keep us posted.

What are you feeding your black milks? Mine are about three years old and are eating two small rats each once or twice a week. I'm thinking about making the switch to medium rats, I just dont want the snakes to become obese.
Also what size cage do you keep the 5 footer in?
Thanks:
Jason Mc

He gets 2 small rats or 3 large mice every 7-10 days. I think he's about 1200 grams now.
I keep him in a 4ft boaphile cage.

Nice,
It makes me happy to hear that you are giving your black milks room to move! A few years back before I bought mine, people were telling me I should keep them in a 32 quart rubbermade box. Even though I keep other snakes in these like hogs and smaller kings. That just seemed too small for an adult black milk. Boaphile makes some really nice cages. I plan to move mine into a vision. Slider boxs are getting too small.
Thanks for the response.
Jason Mc
