Awesome rack for the mechanically Declined!

jnsreptiles Dec 01, 2005 01:50 AM

This is one of the rack systems I have been using lately. They are individual storage drawers from The Container Store. Each tub measures 15-3/8"D x 8-3/4"W x 5-3/4"H. Each tub costs $5.99. This pic is one wall with 35 (7 high by 5 wide) I put some old pieces of shelves laying around on top of them and the rack also doubles as a work table. These things hold humidity like CRAZY! They are completely enclosed, so there is no chance for escape. I have 3" heat tape running down the outside back of each stack. Several advantages:
Extremely affordable!
Easy to clean.
Very Lightweight!
Easy to add on, just add more drawers.
Easy to find.

The Container store also has other sized drawers for subs and adults in sizes 19-3/4"D x 15-3/4"W x 8-1/8"H for $12.99 each, OR 29-1/8"D x 17-5/16"W x 6-1/8"H for $19.99 each, OR 27"D x 23"W x 6-1/2"H for $19.99 each.

These things are AWESOME!!!

Thanks a lot . You find no problem with the heating "pad" no warping ?

None at all. I have not had any warping with it whatsoever. I actually had a 50lb bag of shaving on top of one half of the stack for about a week. I was afraid that the bottom shelves might have trouble opeing, so I removed it. To this day, I still have not had any problems with warping. One suggestion, Place something across the top, such as a bookshelf, or plywood. You need some weight on it. I did have trouble with the top ones holding humidity as well as the bottom ones, but once I placed the wood on top, and turned it into a workstation too, there has been no more humidity troubles. You could house a green tree python in these things if needed, lol. I am getting 30 of the larger ones in January to house the subs that are getting to big for these now. The drawers have a small lip on them that helps to keep them closed. I had a hatchling escape out of one of the cages the first night, but that was fixed once the wooden shelf was placed on top. The cage it escaped from was the top of the stack. I think the extra weight from the wood made it basically impossible for the snake to push it open. Now the same neonate is 415 grams and has not escaped since.

Thanks I humidity is not an issue so no big deal. I am actually getting 2 of the larger sizes to house 2 New mex milks .
Plenty of room and perfect for them. Bigger than tanks and stackable.
thanks again

These are neat! Where are you adding your airholes? Or do they have little vents in the back?
