Is a 30 gal tank too small for a corn?

Michelle1010 Dec 01, 2005 05:53 AM

I have been offered to buy a used 30 gal tank with everything. Lights, heat pad, screen top with locks, stand for tank and etc for what I believe is a decent price, $175. I was wondering if it will be big enough once the corn gets bigger. The corn is 30-32 inches long now. I was going to by a 40 gal or 50 gal but this offer came up.

I housed an adult emorys rat in a 20 long tank (which i think has the same base as a 30 gal its just not as tall) and it was very comfortable. I would say take it.

i would say take it also, but i am going to mention something here while this topic is up.
there are different types of tanks.......
a 20 long which is 30 inches long,
then you have a 29 gallon tank which is also 30 inches long.....
they also make a 30 gallon long tank which is 36 inches long
and they also make a 40 something gallon tank which is 36 inches long 48 i think....
and i think you can find 50 or 55 gallon tanks that measure 36 inches....
the lenghs all run the same it is usually the height and width.
for example
a 20 long measures 30 inches long by 12 inches high, by 12 inches wide or front to back.
a 29 gallon (high) tank measures 30 inches long by 18 inches high and 12 inches front to back.
the reason i brought this up i went to a pet shop and bought a screen top for a 30 gallon tank, got home and it was 6 inches to long......
so it is a good idea to know the measurements of a tank when going to buy a stand or screen top or the such that has to go by measurements.....

$175 seems a bit steep to me, since it's used. I'd haggle down to at least $125, maybe $100, otherwise you can get the stuff new for $175.

Also, if you take it, bleach everything down (5% bleach/water solution) then thoroughly rinse, rinse, and rinse again.

Good luck,

Walt

Nature is huge. Get a bigger tank.

Yes, you were right I should have asked for less. When I got home with the tank I saw that it was an old tank, 14 yrs, it may need to have the glue redone on it. I had my son with me so he was excited about it along with the other things he got too before I could think about whether I wanted it or not. Tank, stand, lamps, heat pad, nice snake book, snake hook and bags, climbing wood things, and water dish. I don't know what to think. My son thinks I am making too much of this. He thinks I got a lot for $175.
