When I first started reading Calvin and Hobbs back in the 90's or whenever it started, I remembered thinking that my Mom would hate that comic strip. I remember thinking that she'd see Calvin as an obnoxious little brat. Instead, when the subject came up, she commented that she loved Calvin and Hobbs because it reminded her "what active imaginations little boys have." I remember thinking that she didn't always have that perspective a couple of decades ago when she was raising someone with that active imagination. It's neat how we live and learn.
