Switching to Frozen Feeders

melon88 Dec 01, 2005 08:18 AM

It looks like our BP is easily making the switch to F/T. So it's time to order on line. Which feeder companies do you folks who order on line recommend for quality, dependability, and ease of use? Thanks for the help.

How did you switch yours to f/t? I have 3 that wont even look at the f/t mice and Im not really set up to house or breed live, for the small # of snakes i have. how did you manage it?

I wish I could give you a secret but for this guy it was simply a matter of introducing a properly warmed F/T'd rat and wiggling it gently with a stick. He has taken one the last two feedings with no problem. He was raised on F/K and is about a year old now and has always been a good eater.

well pooey. was hoping there was a magic trick to it. I guess Ill try warming the mouse up more, not just room temp, and I already use tongs to wiggle it around

thanks

I switched my baby ball to f/t about three feedings ago. For the first two feedings, I wiggled the thawed mouse fuzzies outside her hide for five or ten minutes. She put her head near the entrance, but she didn't strike. I then left the fuzzy on a tile that's part of the hide. When I turned off the lights and ignored her, she ate it after about 20 minutes. On the most recent feeding, I decided against wiggling the mouse. I concluded that she was sitting there wondering why I was playing with her food. I left two mouse fuzzies on the tile, and she was on the first one within two minutes. I'm a newbie, so I don't know whether there's any wisdom in that anecdote, but I thought that I'd pass it along.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

The Mouse Factory. We just received our order today. The rodents are super clean, nicely packaged and were frozen rock solid when they arrived.

I've ordered from them, and both the product and service were excellent. I'm in the process of recieving my second order. Unfortunately they seem to be short on large rats, so the order has been slow, but lots of places are short on stock and have a high demand this time of year. I still recommend them.

I have also heard good things about the mouse factory, but haven't ordered there.

I just got my first order (500 mice and rats) from Rodent Pro. Their packing is excellent. They shipped it Monday and they got here today still frozen solid. There is no bedding or any other stuff on them and they all look great. I will definitely do buisiness with them again.

hey, did you have them delv by greyhound or ups? if you do the greyhound do you have to go to a station to pick it up? I am trying to get ready to place my first order and that is my only issue.

did you notice there was a price increase in the last few days, guess all the demand is in there favor, darn for not getting my stuff together faster and putting an order in.

Have you ever tried the baby quail from RodentPro? I heard someone discussing them on another forum, and I was intrigued. Maybe I wouldn't give one to my baby ball, but I'm thinking seriously about getting them for my kingsnake to go with his mice.

I received my scale yesterday, and my baby ball weighs 105 grams. She's about 14 inches long. Do these numbers sound healthy? She fits easily in a shirt pocket, and I've done jmartin's shedding aid trick by wetting the pocket and shirt and putting her inside. My body heat warms everything to the high 90's, and she seemed pretty happy down there. Afterwards, she easily lost the last of a bad shed.

Quail is ok, but it makes for smelly snake poop.
