Probe depth in ATBs question.

Hi, I probed four of my adult ATBs after suspecting that they were improperly sexed when I bought them. How many scales deep do males and females probe? One of my ATBs probed 14 scales deep, another 9, another 8, and another 5. What does this mean? I am assuming from the comparitive differences between the counts that three are males, and one is a female. Is that right? Thanks!!
