This story and pics getting old.

venombill Dec 01, 2005 11:52 PM

Just got this emailed to me. I was one of over 30 people in the list of sent to addresses. I know you have all seen this picture and heard this tall tale, but its getting a little out of hand now. Read what all has been added to this. We need some nation wide education. I wish there was a way to send the email back to everyone who got it expressing how disgusting it is to think this way towards one of Gods most amazing and beautiful animals.

[Fwd: Fwd: Fw: Texas Rattlesnake For Dinner]
WE GROW 'EM BIG IN TEXAS!!!

This snake was recently found at the old Turkey Creek gas plant located just south of the Alibates Turnoff on Highway 136 south of Fritch Texas.
[THAT'S JUST NORTH OF AMARILLO]

A reminder that these creatures are actually out there and no matter what you believe, sometimes they should get not only prescriptive rights to be there but the full right of way!

9 feet, 1 inch - 97 lbs.

No matter what anybody else tells you, kill the snake before you try to do anything else to it!
It's the safest way for you and the snake doesn't care anymore.

Yuk

DEEP-FRIED RATTLESNAKE

1 medium-sized rattlesnake (3-4 lbs.), cut into steaks
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup cracker crumbs
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (not garlic salt)
1 teaspoon salt
dash pepper

Mix dry ingredients. Whisk milk into beaten egg and use to dip snake steaks.
Then coat them with dry ingredients. Fry, uncovered, in 400 degree oil until brown.

Yup. The 97 pound weight is about as believable as the length.

Obvious that the snake got as close to a tape measure as it did to a scale.

Does anyone here own that brand of tong (it's not a gentle giant), who could measure the width of the bottom jaw for me so I could get an accurate size on that snake? I'm thinking it could possibly be as long as 5 feet...

I want him to escort my girlfriend wherever she goes. Anyone who can hold 97 lbs out like that on tongs has got to have the strength of an anaconda (i figured it would be an appropriate analogy considering my log in name).

Holding a 97 lb. snake out that far with two hooks would be near impossible...let alone a single set of tongs with a distant grip.

But I know western diamond backs get 9 ft and 97 lbs. pretty regularly (I just do not think that one is). I also know cottonmouths will jump in your boat all the time and kids die every year from stearing into nests of them...so killing snakes when you find them would be the logical thing to do.

Ummmm Houstan... We have a problem.

No problem, Houston. Anaconda man had his tongue firmly planted in his cheek for that post. Sarcasm is an often misunderstood form of humor.

Yes, I was being a bit sarcastic with that post. With as many crazy snake stories you hear it really does not surprise me to see things like that. This is why I put forth a lot of time in running an organization which does a number of educational shows for the public. Teaching people to leave snakes alone is a lot safer than killing the snake before you do anything with it.

I will say I was not kidding when I said it would be near impossible to hold a 97 lb snake on tongs like that. My girlfriend is just over half the length they claim that atrox is and a few pound lighter and I cant balance her on two midwest standards to save my life!

(if the sarcasm was missed here...my girlfriend really is tiny and truely just over half the length of their 9 ft atrox and a few lbs. lighter...but while I have pulled her feet out from under her with snake hooks...I have not yet tried to balance her on them...if I did I would try one hook behind the knees and one hook behind the neck...and I would use one of midwests stronger hooks...not the standard, which I do think is great)

And while I agree it is good to see a name at the bottom of a post...people who already know can plug it in their mind here. I do not want to intorduce myself to anyone and have them say "oh, you are the guy who tries to carry his girlfriend on snake hooks"

Take care

Yeah, thinking back, I did not mean that your entire post was sarcasm. I will state this for the record right now..Any 97 pound snake from this planet is either a boid or a python.

Attempting to kill a venomous snake puts the person in harm's way. A fair percentage of snakebites are incurred by people trying to kill a snake.

As far as your using hooks & tongs for purposes other than those for which they were designed, well..can you say kinky?

Heehee ~~Greg~~

This may not be kinky but is a good tip. I use a snake hook to get (seasonal holiday) lights up to those high, out of reach places.

That guy couldn't hold a 19lb snake out like that. "Most" men couldn't hold 35-40lbs that way. Also if he is the one that did that to the snake, he needs to have his neck twisted like that as well. Just my.02

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

I am assuming that outstanding animal was slaughtered for no reason? Looks pretty dead in the pic.
