new Tree Frog owners... leptopelis vermiculatus

shrivver Dec 02, 2005 11:35 AM

Hi, We are new tree frog owners, and would like to find a website that will give us as much information about this type as possible. We want to know about their activity level, their habits, proper care, housing, and husbandry. Can anyone give me a website or suggest a specific book to purchase? thanks

ive got some that ive had for about a year now... there are three in a 30 gallon tank (2 females and a male).. the majority of the tank is taken up by large pieces of driftwood and river rocks.. they seem to like the driftwood, each of them has its own spot it retires to in the morning.. there is about an inch of water at the bottom of the rocks and driftwood pushed around by a powerhead on each side.. (i was going for a rivers edge type tank).. i put a pothos vine in there when i set up the tank and added a power-glo lightbulb and the vine has taken over the tank... i keep the temp at around 80-85 in the warmest spot with a ceramic heat bulb and the rest of the tank is around 75 degrees.. my humidity is around 80%... ive never been able to find a site that gave a suggestion on humidity.. but they have done fine at 80-85 %.. they get fed 3 times a week on crickets and once a week i give them a treat of wax worms or phoenix worms.. they are very active at night, i find them crawling and leaping around the tank about an hour after i turn thier lights out..

i will warn you, they make quite a bit of noise... its 1:38 in the afternoon and i just heard my male call.. they do this A LOT at night.. but other than that they are one of the easiest frogs ive kept and i havent lost one yet.. i only know of one page that has info on them, should be a link at the bottom.. im gonna try to put a picture of my tank up... im not sure if it will work.. hope this helps somewhat... if you want to find another page with info on them, try searching for "big eyed treefrogs", "emerald treefrogs" or "peacock treefrogs" these are the common names ive seen them under..
