Question about taming and handling a water dragon

mrc1330 Dec 02, 2005 12:39 PM

I have a CWD less than 10 inches long, im guessin she's about 7-8 months old, either way, i've had her since oct 27,2005 and she's very settled into her cage and she eats properly and everythings normal

Only thing i wonder about is when i take her out to handle her... she usually doesn't like to bed around my stomach, she'll continuously return to my shoulder and sit there, BUT i notice that she gets very dark. Is this STRESS or is she just not used to being handled yet. I take her out for maybe 15 minutes a day. and then put her back.

i find that reptiles and other animals that tend to be aborial (im really abd at spelling so that could be wrong). are always trying to get to the highest point when possible. this is probably why your water dragon is climbing to your shoulder. when i had an iguana it would always climb to my head and at adult size that was a bit of an annoyance.
i am fairly weird about "taming" reptiles. i always try not to stress out the animal rather then handel it till it is tolerable of handeling. maybe try handeling every other day, but always interact with its environment at least daily (check/change water, check temps etc). thats the best advice i can give on that, so maybe someone else can help further.
