Questions for Robyn (Pro Exotics)

debb_luvs_uros Dec 02, 2005 05:20 PM

Robyn,

As it has now been two years since you have been working with uromastyx, I was wondering if you could update us with some information.

You mentioned that you purchased your first uromastyx back in Oct 2003 and divided those hatchlings into groups of five. How many uromastyx were originally purchased? Have you lost any uromastyx from this original group?

Did you later divide these groups into breeding colonies? If so, how many uromastyx were in each trough and what was the male to female ratio of these colonies?

Did you see any aggression at all with your ornates in the two years since you acquired them? If so, what time of year did this take place and what type of aggression was involved- male to male, female to male…

Did you see any illness such as respiratory conditions, bacterial infections, fungal infections, conjunctivitis…..

You mentioned a month ago that you had a ‘plethora’ of ornate babies. Exactly how many babies were able to successfully exit the egg? Did you lose any of the babies after hatching? If so, how many?

You mentioned a second female that laid shortly after the first- did any hatchlings emerge from this oviposition? If so, same questions as above on the first clutch.

You were quite active out here a few years ago giving details about your uromastyx setup so I was surprised to hear very little actual data from you regarding your continuing experience. While I understand you are probably busy (as we all are), I would appreciate you taking the time to follow up here with some actual pertinent details of your experience.

hi Deb, i am out of the office this weekend, i will get to this post first of the week. i will need to refer to our records and notes at the shop for a lot of these.

i am pleased with our progress at this point, and i am always happy to chat about reptiles, but honestly Temp Gun business and breeding have kept me extra busy, and i just don't have the time to post in the forums that i had in the past : )
