Amount of heat tape needed?

tsc Dec 02, 2005 05:36 PM

If I were to use, say, 4" flexwatt, how many feet would I need to reach a basking temp of 90-92 degrees?

Thanks in advance..

Ooooh, okay. I get how it works. Thanks! I ws confused

So, for a 53" enclosure i might want about a foot and a half so it's evenly distributed, and then regulate with a thermostat?

you want to cover about 1/3 of the floor space. the heat tape will get hot probably 100 so you need a dimmer or a thermostat to regulate the flow of energy to reduce the heat emitted from the tape to your desired temperature (92 in your case). i dont think the length has anything to do with the temperature the tape reaches, but i do think that you need to use at least a 12" piece but im not sure why.

You dont necessarly have to have a 12" section of flexwatt, hat is just how it is sold. I always recommend a half and half deal on the heating. I like to the aniaml to have the choice of either being either completly on or off the heat as it needs.
