ANTELOPE VALLEY PRESS (Palmdale, California) 01 December 05 Two teenagers get probation in rattlesnake case (Jacqueline Kallas)
Lancaster: Two women charged with placing a venomous snake in another woman's bed pleaded no contest Wednesday to one of four charges against them and received three years' formal probation, said court authorities.
Amber Acosta and Savannah Sowell, both 19, were arrested Sept. 29 in the 700 block of West Avenue I and charged with attempted murder.
Sgt. Darrel Brown of the Lancaster Sheriff's Station said the charge stemmed from the fact that the Mojave green rattlesnake, though dead, still had venom.
The charges later were amended to include first-degree residential burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and using a booby-trap device - the charge to which the women pleaded Wednesday.
The provision asserts that a "booby trap means any concealed or camouflaged device designed to cause great bodily injury when triggered by an action of any unsuspecting person coming across the device."
