Finicky Ghost!!

davester Dec 02, 2005 11:24 PM

Well the reality of what will and won't breed next year has set in. I even think my 03 hondos might not be big enough! O'well no rush, I'm going to try anyways. This is my 04' female ghost, she has a high band count(which is cool) and some might consider her a "pinner". She is very finicky when it comes to eating and handling, always squirming and only eating live when "she" feels like it. I'm keeping her warm and feeding this winter. O'ya I've been seeing a couple hondos that I would consider hypos shown or on sale as normals. Hypos are a visible trait correct? I always consider a hypo to have no tipping in the red bands only some if not at all in the lighter bands as you can see in this ghost. Any replys would be appriciated!

Hey dave, a great looking ghost you have there...

I was just wondering, what are you considering as the minimal weight and length for a breeder honduran?

Thanks for the photos,
Nevo

Thanks, a couple of them are about 36in. and pretty thick. I'm not sure on the weight I gave up my scales a long time ago! But I guess it's time to reinvest in one. What's the mininum length you ever heard of a hondo laying eggs?

Pic looks anery to me but, could be ghost, I guess. Variations are out there.

Yes she's a hypo anery, both of mine are Byron Barnes stock. One way you can tell for sure, where the bands would be red there's translucent tipping on the ends of the scales were there normaly would be black. Also some do have slight peppering in the "wide" bands. Notice on my male, a couple specs in his first few bands were there shouldn't be. But then you can almost see his translucent tipping on the rest of the "wide" bands. Sorry if this thread is hard to follow, i did my best. Keep doing research on ghosts and anerys and you will learn to know the difference!
Thanks for the reply,
Dave

Thanks Zenny, he does have red pupils. I think next year were going to see alot more of the ruby eyed, light banded, hypo anerys.

ZFelicien Dec 03, 2005 10:22 AM

Um... that's interesting... red pupils, if you can capture it in a photo plez share.

That makes a lil logical sense a Hypo-Anery (super clean??) and an Anery-Hypo (not as clean???)... there seems to be much more involved with various mutations i guess we need to look beyond the surface.

Thanx for the info

I don't think there's a difference between hypo-anery and anery-hypo, there both ghosts. It's the greater reduction of pigment from the hypo morph that cleans them up. But the question still remains, you can have a hypo with lavender bands and ruby eyes but also a hypo with reduced or no pattern with nice clean bands and normal pupils(here we go again).
O'ya I'll try to get some close-up shots of his eyes but he's brumating right now. The light has to be right to see his red pupils, not as bright as say Mike's extreme ghost those suckers were glowing!
