Feeding

zugzug31 Dec 03, 2005 02:33 AM

Sorry about the constant reposts but I still cannot get a clear idea on what I should do about my snake. I have tried to geed it f/t in many ways and times but it wont eat them, only live. Ive tried a f/t and a live and it ate only the live. I tried 2 lives and it ate them in 5 hours. I tried a week later with 2 lives and it ate them both in 1 hour. So my question is: how do I get it back to f/t. It seems she is starting to eat quicker, so maybe she is getting comfortable. But is there any advice for switching back to f/t from live?

Thanks in advance,
Don

this is what i do. remember i'm not an expert. i have dangle a pinky by its tail in front of the corns. out of my six corns i've never had a problem with this. now i'm to the point i hold the pinky in front of the corns and then place it on the bottom of the feeding tub and the corns now take it no problem. also i defrost mine and then just before feeding i warm up the mice with pretty warm water, not hot, and have not had any problems yet. also a couple of the corns i've had to feed them only at night or in total darkness. if you feed in the day just cover the feeding tub with a pillow case or put the tub in a dark closet. hopefully this will help

>>Don,
Don't worry and don't feel you need to be in a hurry. Unless you have a hard time getting live.
Live will be fine for now.
Get it feeding comfortably on live. Like I said no hurry.
Give it a few more weeks on live maybe three or four weeks.
Then try pre-killing. Pre-kill the mouse before feeding it to the snake. If this works give it a few weeks with pre-killed.
Maybe three or four weeks.
Once it has shown it is willing and eager to eat pre-killed.
Stop feeding it for a couple of weeks.
Then offer it a f/t. Make sure it is warm and move it a little if needed. I would be willing to bet that if you take your time and give it a chance it will switch over.
just my opinion

Don,
Here is one process I have found to be very successful with corn snakes and other snakes. Feed your corn snake a live pinky for about 2 to 3 feedings in a row. When you do this, place the snake in the deli cup or feeding container. Each time put it in the same place. A dark, undisturbed place would be nice. After the 2nd or 3rd time, take a pre-killed pinkie and feed it about 2-3 feedings in a row. After you have fed your snake pre-killed 2 or 3 times, then try a frozen thawed. This usually works for me.

I had a snake that didnt want to eat frozen thawed either. I finally got live pinkies and fed her in a deli cup. For the next feeding i waited until evening and fed her in the tank. When i woke up they were gone. If you try to leave the snake alone and not stare at it or start to get worried that they dont eat right away, they will eat fine. That has been my observance, I hope it works for you!
