any help of a new owner..

spearmint123 Dec 03, 2005 04:11 PM

Hi everybody,
My friend bought me a leo at petco of all places. Its about 2 inches long, can anybody estimate how old it is? I have him or her in a critter keeper with and undertank heater. I'm using paper towel as a substrate. The poor thing looks skinny, i think the mealworms I got are to big, can I get mealies that are smaller?
I'm just a little nervous cause its sooo small and skinny, I would post a pic if I knew how.

thanks for any help

You can post a pic in the gallery then when you post a message it will be there for you to post. You can get all different kinds of mealworm sizes online at timberline foor(not sure of website) or you can get pinhead crickets which your gecko should be able to eat. Hope this helps!!!

Here's Timberline's site. http://www.timberlinefisheries.com I would get the supers they have more nutritional value than the mealies, and don't have to be refridged to keep them from turning into beetles. Sounds like you have a newly hatched little one. My new hatchlings eat the small supers, when they start eating.

Good luck. Can't wait to see a pic.

Congrats on the new Leo, I agree it sounds like it's not more than maybe 2-3 weeks old. Mealworms are more than likely too big, go back to Petco and get some small crickets, they usually have them, they will be about 1/4"-1/3" long those will work great. Pinheads I think are just too darn small, my hatchlings won't even look at them LOL I agree with Balloonzforu about Superworms. I feed small superworms to my hatchlings & babies and they love them. But you will have to order those online, the petstores only sell large superworms. Good Luck and keep us updated on your babys progress

you said u keep it in a critter keeper? i belive those are plastic and if so you should not use a UTH(under tank heater) on it because it could melt releaseing toxic fewums into the cage or worse catch fire. 10G aqariums are only 10$ and they are glass and safe to use UTH on. good luck with the little guy. they are addicting
