oversoaking?

hawaiian Dec 03, 2005 07:51 PM

well i was wondering if my ornate boxie oversoaks ... she spends about 30-40 mins soaking ... the thing is im not sure shes soaking ... once when i wasnt home for a while i came back and there was masquito larvae in the water ... i think she was eating them so i immediately cleaned the water ... i think now she just keeps looking if there are more to eat ... the thing is though ... is it bad for them to eat masquito larvae ?

Nope it's not bad, that's fine. You can buy that as frozen fish food, some turtles will it the fish food... mine won't but.. some will.

My indoor boxies soak in their bathtub every day. Shell E usually does it for the longest amount of time but all of them soak for as long as they want to. I leave the room while they soak in shallow water when I hear them start to move around in the tub, I know they're ready to come out.

In summer when they are outside they have a water dish for soaking in, they stay in as long as they want.
Inside or out, I never worry about how long they soak as long as the water doesn't get too cold.

I don't put a thermometer in the bathtub I just use what I call tepid or lukewarm water. It feels slightly warmer than the water in my aquatic turtle tanks.
