(I'm in Minnesota.) I sent an email to the following person and I've posted his original response below this thread. He did list my request on a board and I got offers from all over the country, but more importantly, I got offers locally. The supplier I ended up with has a small (hobby) meat rabbitry (for human consumption) and has now pretty much abandoned supplying the butcher and raises his rabbits solely for me. He has enlisted the help of another rabbiter and they're bothing helping meet my demand. They charge me 80-cents per pound, but I pay them $1.00 per pound, because I think they're being too generous. Some times they even deliver to me if we can't work out a good time for me to run to his place about an hour away. Anyway, the point being, these small rabbitries are usually pretty cash-starved and our hobby can be life-blood for theirs. (Plus, you'll never see finer rabbits -- freshly raised, freshly killed, freshly frozen.)

Don't get me wrong, I have had WONDERFUL service from several commercial suppliers listed here on Kingsnake and still get other feeder needs from them, but I had to do something about the shipping costs.

Jonathan....

With your permission, I can post your request to the listserve for the members of the Professional Rabbit Meat Association (PRMA). I'm sure you will get some very positive answers and offers. Please let me know if this will be satisfactory to you. The "feeder rabbit" markets are very popular and viable markets for rabbit breeders, and especially for those who are raising meat rabbits. I also had a clientele of over 20 reptile owners who purchased from me every two weeks. That "repeat business" can often mean the difference between success and failure. However, todays emphasis for this particular market is stressing "pre-kill" rather than "live feeding," and many breeders simply will not sell for live feeding.

If you agree to allowing me to post your request and you don't receive any answers, then, get back to me, as there will be other options available. Just let me know. We'll find you a supplier who charges reasonable prices.
