I've read a lot about brumation, and one thing I've always noticed is that you have to gradually decrease the temp. I am only familiar with under tank heaters, and don't see how this can be done. Am I missing something? Thanks.

You need a cold(er) room (or seperate room) where you can control and lower temps simply by keeping heat away from it. Some people brumate snakes in walk-in closets at the far corners of their house. Others like myself simply put them in an unused bedroom, close the heat-vent, seal the door and regulate temps by opening window on warmer days and closing them on Extremely cold days. I have a thermometer in there so I can keep temps between 45-55 degrees mostly. That has worked very well for me for years. Years ago, when I lived in upstate New York, I DID use a walk-in closet (kept it sealed) and it was pretty cold in there as well. . .
I know some other folks on here that have more elaborate systems/ways of doing this (such as seperate rooms with heat/ac), but I live in a perfect part of the world: SE. North Carolina, where I can easily do this the cheap way
Hope this helps a little. . .

Thanks. That clears up a lot.
Instead of moving tanks around you could just go out and get a rheostat. You can turn the heat up in the winter and lower it in the summer. I don't know how i ever lived without it.
I got mine at Petsmart for $20 then realized i probably could've got one from Ace Hardware for cheaper.
