Plumifrom basilisk eye closure

angus1973 Dec 04, 2005 11:04 AM

Hey all...got a question for you. I noticed yesterday that my basilisk's left eye was closed. The last time this happened, his eye really swelled shut. I treated him with some Neomycin at the suggestion of my friend who is a herp hobbyist and curator at my local zoo. A day later, he was fine. Well, his eye is shut again, and I treated it the same way. My question pertains to the reason for this closure. He is in a spacious cage by himself, so I'm not sure why this has happened again. I know how to treat it successfully, but I'm quite curious about the reason why this happens and am eager to prevent it in the future. Any suggestions or comments would help. Thanks!

I would suspect a vitamin deficiency is making him suseptable to an infection, try a liquid vitamin suppliment given directly with a dropper or a powder on the food.
