Kinda worried about my lizards brumation.

Collaredkeeper Dec 04, 2005 01:24 PM

Well, the adult aquaflame group is not taking the brumation as I had hoped. The tank has been shut down since early november and they are not settling in to the sleeping state. There is no heat or light going into the tank so I am not sure why they are not finding a hole and hiding out. The male seems to always be out and in a basking area but never really brumating. Although they are all sleeping 9/10 of the day, I am not sure if they are healthily brumating. I do not want to lose any during this period so so I keep them in brumation or is brumation harming there health (starving them). Also, they might just be out to stretch every now and then during the day, so is this habit normal?
Thanks

If you see a noticable weight lose in htem, then I woulkd get concerned. But moving around some can be normal.

Heres a paragraph from my site on brumation and what it can look like.....

**For those people who wonder how your brumating lizard will look, they can either be asleep, or just appear to be in a fog, or daze. Though their metabolism has slowed considerably, they can perform various levels of activity such as drinking and moving about. Just keep an eye on there wieght, if they look bad/ thin, just stop the bruamtion.

Hopfully they will be fine.

Hi,
The same thing happened to my lizards and they have been brumating since mid September and haven't lost very much wieght. Like Eve said just make sure that they don't lose wieght too quikly. The good thing about them being more active is that they can get drinks of water by themselves.

Good luck,
Morgan
