what is the idea behind breeding "seasons" in captivity?

i dont understand how there can be seasons in a simulated environment...i understand the needed breaks between breedings...is that all a season is? thanks.

There are many variables not completely controled in a simulated enviroment. Temperatures, daylight hours, and humidity are the big ones that will fluctuate even just slightly during the year, but I'm sure there are others that only the herps know of. The closer we control these withen the herp's enclosure, the more we can control the animals instincts and move the breeding season to when we desire. Certain herps are easier to control in this manner, while others are difficult enough to breed that making use of natural cycles is just easier.
