Try really small crickets

WindyO Dec 04, 2005 07:24 PM

They don't eat for about a week while they finish digesting the yoke from the egg. Also they need to eat their first shed which they digest for the nutrients. I wait til i see stool in their cage before i feed them. Place several small crickets in with them and make sure the cage is clean first so the crickets don't eat the geckos stool.

I agree with what WindyO said. All my hatchlings generally eat at about 5-6 days old. I don't even offer food until I know they have shed and see their first poop. I do keep a small dish of fresh water in for them from day 1 and a small dish of pure calcium. Once they have pooped the first time, they all have seemed ready for their first cricket hunt. I would think baby roaches would work just as well. I sure hope so anyway, I have started a roach colony myself and pray I can get rid of crickets as soon as my colony is big enough to start feeding off. So, I'll be trying baby roaches instead of crickets for my hatchlings next season, hopefully they'll like them just as well
