Philodryas aestivus constricting - Story and pics

Saker Dec 04, 2005 06:34 PM

First let me start off by saying I almost always feed pre-killed mice, I thought this time would be no exception...

I tossed a mouse into the cage with my male P. aestivus and to my surprise it took two sure footed jumps before it was bitten on the face, I assume because the mouse was able to struggle he felt the need to constrict, hes never done this in the 2 years or so that I have had him.

3 very tight coils and chewing on the face and the mouse was dead in 20-30 seconds.

Never having seen this before and wanting to not forget it I ran downstairs grabbed my Nikon Collpix 7600 and snapped some shots, they were very impromptu and I did not want to disturb the snake, so the quality suffers.

Quality suffered a bit more than I expected from the resize.
