go to deerfernfarms.com there is a great caresheet there. i would not feed him "animal" proteins. on the deerfernfarms caresheet he mentions giving crickets to babies but someone on here said he hasn't had time to update his caresheet but he does not give crickets to his animals at all now. it is really hard on their liver or kidneys (i can never remember which one) to process the animal proteins. i give my little egyptian ground up beans so he does not get impacted by the big beans for protein. but i am more concerned with him eating his leafy greens, which he does eat well

Try a blend of safflower seeds, rolled oats, dry split peas and grape nuts cereal. mix in your powder vitamins too. They love it. If you have access to clean dandilions they love those too.

They ones I caught in Saudi Arabia and Iraq [U. Microlepis]were eating wild mustard plants/flowers and seeds as well as wild grass. Thats pretty much all that was growing there. I had one of the wild caught animals go nuts when I placed a large stinkbug looking beetle in its cage. So, they can and will take bugs but I'm not sure how often that is good to do in captivity.
Good Luck,
Chuck
