Restrictions in Colorado?

terrylove Dec 04, 2005 10:50 PM

Hi, I'm taking a temp job in Avon, Colorado (until April) and have been told there are restriction on the ownership of snakes over 6'. I know such restrictions exist but how would I found out, or does anyone know, it there are in Avon? I would imagine it's a city ordinance and not a state law.

Thanks

Terry

Ya thats true, nothing over 6'. no venemous, somewhere a while back i heard you could keep native venomous.

I think the 6' law is a little harsh, i mean Bullsnakes can reach more length than that and they are native.

Since I have moved to Colorado from Texas, I have found that the state officials don't want Reptiles being kept in Colorado
(no breeding reptiles in the garage) even if it is a business and generate needed tax revenue. They also passed a state law that makes keeping any venomous reptile illegal other than gilas and beadeds. Rattlesnakes are out, even if they are local praire rattlers that they have a hunting season on but you have to kill them. This is even if you don't live in a city and have them out in the middle of a ranch.

The laws that are added on top of the State Laws, if you can determine what the state laws are by reading the website the state has up, are city laws against prohibited non-household pets. Now the town I live in has a great one that allows a resident to keep a pot belly pig up to 99lbs. if it is a registered member of the Colorado Pot belly pig association! If over that it is not a household pet nor are racoons, praire dogs(the little guys were outlawed last summer)and a list of other creatures. Your Boa or Python that is over 6ft. would fall under the City Law of the city you are planning on moving to.

Hope this helps
