Crickets?!?!?!?

9200 Dec 05, 2005 01:24 AM

I was just wondering is it okay to store/care for two different types of crickets in the same place or container?! Today I bought more crickets but I still had a few left from the week before but the new crickets are different this time around, just wondering if its okay!!!
Thanks in advance!!!

yeah its totally fine you can house pinhead crickets with adults. 1 day old crickets to 4 weeks old it makes no difference. crickets are crickets are crickets are crickets if you get my point.

I don't know what you meant by "Type", maybe you meant to say Size?

Anyways, I think your best bet is to keep them separated if there is a great size difference. If starved, Crickets will eat each other, their own young, and even their own eggs. Although, you shouldn't be starving your crickets anyways.

Just a friendly reminder that in general, your crickets shouldn't be larger than the width between the eyes of your Bearded Dragon. Personally, I use much smaller crickets. They don't chip at night, so I get some sleep. And they are more likely than adult crickets, so my beardies get more excercise in the cage.

I don't see any reason why the crickets can't be kept in the same container. Providing the new comers are given access to plenty of fresh food (greens, gutload, moisture etc) there shouldn't be any cannibolization between the two groups.

The only way I see to separate is if adding the new group will over crowd the container you are u sing now for crickets. If it had plenty of space and cover, then put them all in the same container. Again make sure you have plenty of food available. Whether you bought the crickets from a petstore or mailorder, they would have gone a day or more without food and will be hungry. Crickets eat quite often compared to larger life forms so a day without food could easily be equivalent to us not eating for a week.
