Not a king...but such a sweetie!

dawnrenee2000 Dec 05, 2005 01:09 PM

We have a relatively small collection of about 18 snakes that are mostly kings or Milks. The variety of colors and personalities we have are awesome..but I must share my sweet little wild caught friend with you. He was found this past summer on our running trail and quite the feisty one he was! but now he has become quite tame and wonderful. Just had to share!

Thanks for the pic. He's a beauty. What locality is your black rat? I'm in Va. and most of the ones I find are nice, solid black animals as full grown adults.

I am originally from VA so I know how beautiful the adults can be there. I am in Kansas city now, but they are about the same here just not quite as big as those wonderful VA ones get. It took a while to tame him down , but he has developed a great adaptedness to being in captivity now.

Come down to Joplin sometime ( a little east of springfield) they are just as black and about 6.5' Can't go wrong there!

I had a similar experience -- my first snake was a black rat I caught, and it was so wicked that at the time I thought it might be a racer. It even struck at the glass when I walked by the cage. And then after a month or so calmed right down and became extremely tame.

Anyway, very nice.

Calming them down is a requirement to keep our fingers happy!

That's a very nice looking ratsnake. Can't say the ones in s. Ohio are that pretty, but I'll attach a photo of one that we saw while road crusing early in the morning.

Hope I don't jinx you by posting this. It seems a lot of the strands I post in get deleted, even when I post kingsnake pictures and info along with them. I started out a long time ago mostly interested in kingsnakes, then switched to ratsnakes for many years, and now I'm getting back into kingsnakes again...LOL.

Good luck with your new pet black rat
