We just got a few caiman in and I want to double check my identification on them. Both look similar but have different numbers of post occipital rows. Here is a pic of the first one.
Thanks

caiman #2

John,
That appears to be a Brown Caiman - Caiman crocodylus fucus. For reference, you may refer to, among other publications, the CITES Crocodilian Identification Guide. If you'd don't have a copy of it and you'd like to receive one as a PDF file, just reach me through this site with your email address and I'll be happy to send it.

In case anyone wants the Identification Guide, its available online
I believe the enclosed link is the guide Izzy is talking about, this is the CITES version but it has a few very minor changes made by CSG.
I was thinking Caiman C. fuscus as well or possibly hybrid caiman (the coloration and jaw blotches)
CITES Crocodilian Identification Guide
That is what I was thinking also. The CITES guide doesn't have c. yacare or key out the sub species like the brown. My other thought was a spec x yacare.
