OK, now thats pretty darn silly, the subforums,

FR Dec 05, 2005 08:45 PM

There three that include common kingsnakes. Isn't that odd and they overlap, getula kings and eastern kings. Or calkings and getula. Hmmmmmmmm I am confusing myself.

Then if you take housing and enclosures, and health and diet, Those are both a key parts to keeping and breeding of kingsnakes which is the subject of this forum.

On the otherhand, if you posted here and they were stored by subject, that would not be a bad thing. But how would you seperate posts that include several subjects. Like what if I posted several pics and included a thayeri a calking and a alterna. Oh man, they would have to split them up.

You get the picture! does anybody know why they are doing this? Thanks FR

Yep, what are these guys thinking? Or are they? Doesn't make sense to me either. Maybe a case of too much moderation. Deleting threads they shouldn't and creating forums that no one wants. I just wished they would be still. Phil

Hey now that we all can finally come together and agree on one issue, these posts will probably be moved to a new subforum on subforums. This will be a place to discuss subforums. Yap thats what we need.

Do the Libertarians still have that quiz on their site?

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

Does it go here, in the Kingsnake forum, or the getula forum, or the Eastern forum? Or maybe I'm supposed to place it in all three. A good example is the Mole/Prairie King forum. Very, very slow traffic on there, so I would rather post pics, and talk about calligastor over here. The Mexican Forum is an example of a good sub-forum, and has a good amount of traffic and a dedicated following. Same as the Grey-band. Maybe you could have the getula forum also, but other then that, I think it's over kill, IMHO.

Its about fast growth, and the following lack of leadership. When KS was small it was run by one person(with a mission). Then moved to several people(with the same mission) Now its most likely run by volunteers or recent hires(without a mission). Or at least it feels like it.

This is very common in business.

What this means is, we better enjoy it while we can, as the clock is running. I hope it works out and they listen to the users. FR

Yeah, I admonish us all to stay on topic or risk deletion! I noticed after being gone for 3 weeks, catching up on the post about Terry discussing his property with F.R. I casually mention indigoes and it gets wiped. Sorry, I found no kingsnakes this month but did pick up a nice speck from a friend, but with no camera, no interesting story. So I place a trio of pics with 2 indies and a third with my Thayeri and POOF! Go figure!

FR Dec 06, 2005 02:54 PM

Hi Todd, a bunch of our stuff has been deleted or moved. It is odd which ones do and which ones don't. It really doesn't make much sense.

I think the point is, so much of what we do, does indeed cross species boundries. Most colubrid husbandry and field behavior is very similar. I keep looking for something different, but each time I think I have something, further investigation only brings similarities. Oh well.

Oh well, I guess you should just post what you want and include the word kingsnake, every now and then for no apparent reason. hahahahahahahaha FR

Hey Frank, good to hear from ya'! (kingsnake) I was saying in the deleted or moved post about how I thought about what you said once how black snakes cool and heat faster. I used that info to relocate some (kingsnake) indigos that seemed to have moved out of the site. Found 1 4' female therming in the dappled shade of trees on a hillside and a week later found her bruiser of a (kingsnake) mate chasing a cotton rat through a tumbledown of concrete chunks. Long story short, used some info you gave to find the snakes again. Sat on the opposite bank and just scanned the area, and sure enough found 2 of the 5 that were frequenting the area, along with some sheds. (kingsnakes) Appreciate the dialogues with all you fellahs. Most of the continental U.S. is represented here on the (kingsnake) forum. 65 degrees and falling tomorrow. Winter may be creeping in down in south Texas, but we'll see a week or two of some pretty great temps yet.

LOL, The mods on this forum just got O - W - N - E - D !

Actually I think they do a great job and i am greatful we do have them because without some type of law enforcement this place would go down hill in a hurry. Just whoever came up with some of these sub-forums needs to rethink them.

willstill Dec 06, 2005 12:40 AM

Now I have to switch back and forth between multiple forums just to scan what's going on. This is truly asinine, they are ruining these message boards with all of this splitting nonsense. I wonder which genius decided that this should be split down to the sub-species level. What's next the NJ or Georgia eastern sub-sub forum. Truly stupid! People will just stop coming here, its becoming more of a chore to navigate this site every day.

We breed by locality what is so silly about locality based forums? Too much to keep up with? Anyway I guess I've missed something. Did a mod get overzeleous and start moving threads? If so why would that surprise anyone? Generally they do a good job except for the occasional times they read too much into the terms of service or fail to recognize that most of what goes on here is all in fun and part of the lively banter we herpers enjoy.

willstill Dec 06, 2005 07:59 PM

Hi Tony,

I think it is silly because while most of us have our favorite types and locales, we also enjoy reading about other types of kings and king related topics that are discussed here on this forum. While I typically post about easterns, I also read most posts and look at the pics relating to pyros and thayeri. I really enjoy Frank's, Phil's and other's discussions on wild king sightings and behaviors. It just doesn't make sense to me to split all of this stuff up and make things more complicated and bothersome to access when it can all be right here. I don't know, maybe it is just me, but it annoys the crap out of me when people make things more complicated when everyone would be better served if they were just left the way they were. Frankly, I would never visit a sub-forum on locality easterns (or any king) because everything that can be said there, can just as easily be said here with some very interesting related topics posted in between the eastern discussions. It is my opinion that with each separation of topics, the powers that be are dismantling what makes this forum good and interesting. Just my .02

Will

Don't disagree with anything you've said but I do like the mexicana forum. Not only is it civil, its a bit more focused. That doesn't mean I'm not interested in what goes on here its just that if I have a specific concern or question about a mexicana ssp I've less information to cull through. A concern would be if they are moving threads from the root forum to the sub-forums. I think pretty much anything should go here. If people WANT to go off to a more intimate (for lack of a better word) forum fine but they shouldn't be made to.

BobBull Dec 06, 2005 07:59 AM

I miss all of the mountain & Theryi posts but I have limited time to scan through multiple forums. Mods please, we seem to be lumpers when it comes to this community, cut us a break and remove the sub-forums.

I would agree with lumping the others back together, but the mexicana forum has (up to now) been doing quite nicely. I'd hate to see its unique character lost.

But please, put the others back together.

Phew!!! I thought I had stroke and hallucinated the conversations that I was participating in.

i just check it out, that's dumb!

i see no reason for having a Cali-king subforum... maybe i'm a bit bias cuz they're not my favorite kingsnake but WHY!? unfortunately this place is getting boring... i see the same ol' reg kings being posted and when the good stuff is posted people question it's legitimacy?... i just hope things pic up around here.
