introduction...and advice needed

raisnok Dec 05, 2005 09:49 PM

i got my second ball python today, a female, its a normal... i like normals
i named her devi..... now i have durga and devi
heres is what im looking for advice on, really more for an opinion i guess......
when i went into the shop to ask if they still had the pythons the girl said they had one left, and she was mean striking, i went and looked at her, took her out of the enclosure, because the girl seemed terrified of her...
the snake never took a strike at me.... coiled around my arm and laid her head down, i even not paying attention put my hand in front of her and she was fine with that, she seems to not be used to being handled, i will get her used to that.
the funny part was when i went to pay for the snake the girl rung me up, so she was standing across from me, all of a sudden the snake went crazy and started striking at her, i put my hand in front of her and she backed down, not striking at me.... what would the reason be for the snake striking at the girl? cologne? could the girl have harrassed the snake? or was that just a fluke?

Maybe since she worked at the petstore, she smelled like the ball pythons favorite food?

raisnok Dec 05, 2005 09:57 PM

that makes sense, didnt think of that

I'm not 100% sure, but it just makes sense to me

OR.....you were the tree, she was the predator. Most snakes..I said "most", will strike something in front of them, not what they're resting on.

Haha, I have a friend with an ATB like that. Damn thing has struck/bit everybody who's attempted to handle it...except him. With her though, like the guy said she prob just wreacked of rats. Then again, I have noticed some snakes will get a little more ballsy when somebody/something is afraid of them, so who knows.

i would be willing to put money on her smelling of rodent. i have been bitten 5 times by my bps, want to guess how many times i forgot to wash my hands or got too close during a feeding. my largest female will start lining up on my hand faster than on an actual rat if i smell like a rat, go figure.
she was probably not very aware of certain hygenic concerns when it comes to handling the rodents either.
for her sake, i hope her petshop never gets in a big burme or retic.
