Looking for good info on local....

characteristics/ physical traits/coloration of savanna monitors (exanthimaticus)
Basically, I am purchasing a large lot of savannas this season and was wondering if anyone had info on what might be the best area for more patterned or high colored specimens. I would assume it is fairly difficult to obtain a group that are definitely from the same isolated area (mixed collecting from different sources to one exporter) but I'm really at a loss as to where to start researching this or if there is any info available ( I can't find any).
From what I have gathered, for a better chances at successful reproduction, it is more ideal to obtain young individuals, from the same local for consistancy with husbandry. Does this make sense or am I over thinking it. Any info on where to start would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Aera

Hi,
You cover a lot of topics - so this would require a lot of research on your part in ordinary circumstances...but not to worry:

Try these books:

Bennett, D. and R. Thakoordyal. 2003. The Savannah Monitor Lizard. Viper Press, Glossop. 83p.

Bayless, Mark K. 2006. Savannah Monitors. T.F.H. Publications, Neptune City. 128p.[avail. ~Feb. 2006].

These two books should cover most of your needs regarding V. exanthematicus.

cheers,
mark bayless
