How long until rat bite heals?

drasticplastic Dec 06, 2005 12:09 AM

my boa was bit on the head a few days ago and it left a small wound, you can see it in the pic. It seems to be ok but i'm just wondering when it won't be noticable anymore. Is there something I should put on it? I've had him for 2+ years and this is the first incident with a live rat. Yes yes I know, f/t or f/k is much better and I will be starting that next feeding, i've been in denial saying "oh it won't happen to my boa, he's a good eater." I've learned the hard way. Anyway, I appriciate the responses.

it should heal in a few sheds and over time it wont really be noticible. just try to keep it clean and if you have newspaper or substrate of that sort then try some neosporin (sp?). when i had got my male a little over three years ago he had been bitten once above and below the eye and once on the neck. it has been a long time and you can barely notice the scars ... it was over his left eye but in this fairly recent picture you can not even notice.

If you use neosporin, make sure to use the water-based white cream....not the clear ointment, especially if applying near or around the eyes.

Really? will the regular neosporin do damage? I have been using the clear neosporin to treat a burn wound midway down the body.

I have a boa that I got at a local pet store that they had taken in from someone. He was about 4.5 ft. and had amazing color. I bought him because I could tell he was in trouble. I did get him for $80 when they wanted $200. He was infested with mites and had many scars from what I assume to be rat bites, and a scar on his nose from rubbing the enclosure he had been kept in. I have had him for three years now and the scars are obviously permanent because they're still there.

I was able to clean up the mites, but the scars from the bites and the scar on his nose still show evidence that he was mistreated. The rat bites have completely healed, but his nose will never be normal. He always has tough sheds because they start wrong.

DON"T FEED LIVE!!!!
